Our client
ClimatePartner helps organizations calculate, reduce, and offset their carbon emissions while financing climate projects. They offer a certified ClimatePartner label that guarantees transparency and credibility. Through this label, consumers can access detailed information on a product's or company's carbon emissions, reduction measures, and the climate projects they support. ClimatePartner also provides critical services for emissions reporting in line with international regulations such as GHG Protocol and CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive), which is a key EU regulation.
The Challenge
Prior to the project, ClimatePartner's process for generating CSRD reports was manual, time-consuming, and prone to human error. With the EU's CSRD deadline approaching in February, there was immense pressure to deliver an automated solution on time. The company had to process significant volumes of emissions data from various sources, requiring robust data handling and enrichment capabilities.
The Proposal
We proposed developing an automated CSRD report generation system that would replace manual workflows, ensure compliance with EU regulations, and scale with ClimatePartner's future reporting needs. Our solution would handle large amounts of data efficiently and deliver accurate reports by the February deadline.
The Solution
We took a collaborative approach to the project, with one of our senior full-stack engineers working directly alongside ClimatePartner's team. First, we delivered a working Proof of Concept (POC) to demonstrate the feasibility of the automation process. After successfully validating the POC, we proceeded with full integration of the CSRD report generation system. We built a robust solution using Node.js for backend development and data processing, Next.js for the front-end interface, an report generation tool for generating and rendering reports, and AWS for scalable infrastructure and data storage. Towards the end of the project, we added another report type to the system and performed rigorous scalability testing to ensure the solution could handle growing data volumes without compromising performance.
